The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation
has recorded a profit of Rs 107 crore during the
year 2008-09.
Addressing a press conference in the city on
Tuesday, V Dinesh Reddy, APSRTC managing director
said this was the third consecutive year that
the corporation generated a profit of over Rs
100 crore.
He further said that the proposed installation
of LCD television sets in all the 20,000 buses,
including ordinary services, throughout the state
had received a setback as the contractor, Telemart,
backtracked expressing inability to execute the
contract. The Rs 30 lakh paid as affront amount
was subsequently forfeited. "New tenders
would be issued after the election results,"
he said.
He also said the management of APSRTC will hold
a meeting with National Mazdoor Union (NMU) to
address the demand for pay revision. "A pay
revision committee consisting of executive directors
has been formed, which will submit a report in
a year on the pay revision," said Dinesh
Reddy.
During the briefing he said that except Mehdipatnam
and Farooqnagar, bus terminal works have started
in all the other five centers in the city. Rs
162 crore has been dedicated towards the cause
under JNNURM and that re-tendering for both Mehdipatnam
and Farooqnagar will be done after May 16. "We
expect all the 1,500 new buses throughout the
state under JNNURM to be delivered by September,"
said Reddy.
