What does the consumer demand? What does
he buy? Is he sure or confused? Has something
helped him make his purchase decision?
All this and many more details on the BT-Indica
Research Index of Consumer Sentiment (BT-IRICS),
The Research indicates a positive consumer confidence
since August 2002. This is not an overnight movement
but a slowly evolving trend. One indication towards
this positive trend is the growing significance
of small businesses, and this feel-good factor
is having an infectious effect across multiple
sectors. Pessimism scores on most of the parameters
are down, but that doesn't discount the fact that
things are completely in form.
It's even anticipated that the Indian Cricket
team's performance at the World Cup could prove
to be a major leveraging factor to push the economy
ahead. Apart from that the other important factor
that could have a landmark impact on the opinion
research could be: the US led war with Iraq.
The methodology of the research is aimed at measuring
the mood of the consumer towards buying. The BT-Indica
Research Index of the Consumer Sentiment (BT-IRICS)
is the country's first-ever consumer confidence
index.
The survey was conducted across a sample of 1,108
customers across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore,
Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Coimbatore and Kochi.
