Here is a man who has moulded his passions and
hobbies into a successful career : Mr Nikhil
V Pai, the young and energetic proprietor
of Orpheus - a professional sound and light
reinforcement group. "I had a special
liking for sound specially music since my childhood.
I was the lead singer of some of the popular musical
bands like lithium," says Nikhil with
a resonating voice.
After graduating in Hotel Management from the
Institute of Hotel Management in 1992, Nikhil
did not tread in the path of his ancestors who
were well known players in the hotel industry.
Instead, he pursued his passion which was music
and today he not only carved a niche for himself
but is also redefining the entire gamut of organising
a show with special sound and light effects. "Today,
the demand for professionals with an expertise
in handling sound and light equipment has increased.
Whether you conduct a seminar or a musical night
it's the sound and light which plays a vital role
in the event's success," says Nikhil.
Orpheus boasts of sophisticated sound and
light equipment imported from countries like the
US and Singapore.
 Started
in 1997, Orpheus has been growing by leaps and
bounds rendering its services to some of the big
companies like Hindustan Lever Limited, Tata Teleservices
Ltd, Bayer India Ltd, Grasim India (Cements Division),
Hindustan Thompson Associates and Wipro Peripherals
to name a few. In recent times, they have provided
and executed the sound and light equipment for
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's music concert, Rajat Kapoor's
play 'I am Not Baji Rao' and the plays staged
by Lilette Dubey. At present Orpheus has a permanent
customer base in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra
Pradesh and are eyeing the markets of Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in the
near future.
 But
isn't sound and light reinforcement a complicated
job? Yes, behind every event lies a great amount
of hardwork. The equipment has to be carefully
put up without getting damaged and must be repaired
and upgraded from time to time. Apart from this,
the members of the group have to constantly travel
carrying the equipment from one place to another.
Nikhil who is completely dedicated to
his profession has a special passion for motor
racing. Riding on Maruti Esteem, Nikhil has participated
in all the major motor racing championships held
in the country and has brought laurels to the
state by winning many.
