From
gunny bags and sacks to handbags and shopping bags,
jute has come a long way. This versatile fibre is
now being used to create exciting new products that
have caught the imagination of millions of people
across the world. The range is unbelievable and
as for the look, you are sure to fall in love with
the products.
Jute bags fair organized by the Jute Manufacturers
Development Council (JMDC) in association
with AP Pollution Control Board held at YMCA,
Secunderabad, showcased various items made from
jute. Often
referred to as India's golden fibre, jute can create
beautiful products which are not only reliable but
also very cheap. They cost as low as Rs. 5 and are
rich in quality. The products included carry bags,
purses, tiffin carriers, school bags, mats, handbags,
hanging chairs and wall decor, sewed beautifully
with astounding colours, displaying great artisanship.
Says a house wife Malini from Safilguda, "Jute
bags are very skillfully made and look very fashionable
and they are also easy to carry. Even my children
enjoy using these bags." From men and women
to the children, the products are made for everyone.
You can also pep up your living rooms or office
rooms with bright cushion covers and an amazing
range of furnishing for your sofas and curtains.
A few samples of splendid and gorgeous pieces of
jute wall hangings can change the decor of a room
completely. These show pieces are made from fibre,
yarn and fabric.
Jute
bag manufacturers from across India participated
in the fair, which attracted a lot of attention
from the public. Jute manufacturers from Calcutta,
the hub of jute manufacturing, brought with them
some aesthetic and a wide variety of jute bags.
DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural
Areas) which is doing pioneering work in the
state by providing self employment to women is also
involved in jute bags making. The stall put up by
DWCRA had some nicely woven jute bags by the women
of Srikakulam district. MS-MACS, a
cooperative society from Charminar is generating
self-employment for women by producing eco-friendly
and traditional products. Purses, greeting cards
and handbags made by this group sold like hot cakes
during the exhibition.
Besides
reliability and beauty, there are some other distinct
advantages of using jute bags. The first and foremost
advantage of jute is that it is nature friendly
because it contains cellulose and lignin, which
are biodegradable. Says B Narsimulu, Marketing
Promotion Officer JMDC, "When you throw away
the plastic bags after using, they do not decay
and remain in the soil. But jute bags are nature
friendly and decay in the soi l
very quickly, maintaining an ecological balance."
JMDC, Government of India, is actively involved
in the promotion and marketing of jute products
which are slowly gaining popularity all over the
world. Says Narsimulu, "JMDC is selling the jute
products through e-commerce all over the world."
The products made from jute are not only rich in
quality but also beneficial to the mankind, particularly
with reference to maintaining an ecological balance.
The gaining popularity of jute products is indeed
a good sign. |
