 Stained
glass panels, which are normally seen in churches
in Europe and India are now available in Hyderabad.
'Cutglas', a tiny outlet, opened recently
in Marredpally is providing stained glass panels
to the city dwellers by displaying various artistic
and original stained glass works in its showroom.
The rare artworks which add glamour to any place
have been used as an ornamentation items in religious
structures till today. But thanks to 'Cutglas',
now they can be used in decorating homes, hotels
and offices.
Established by Nandita Vijayan, the
outlet displays the exclusive range of objects carved
out of coloured glass. Visiting the outlet is quite
an experience to any one. The colourful light reflecting
from the stained glass makes this shop a must visit
place.
 Nandita,
a trained professional in stained glass crafting,
moulds the various glass objects which are showcased
in the outlet. "Because I'm interested towards
creative field, I did a three month course in stained
glass crafting at Los Angeles (where Nandita
lived after her marriage). After I came back to
India, I thought of establishing an outlet to display
and sell the stained glass panels. This led me to
start Cutglas" said Nandita. Using her
artistic mind Nandita makes beautiful objects with
original stained glass. She cuts (using a cutter
like a pen with a refill of lubricant), grinds,
foils (a kind of copper foil) and solders glass
(with lead). "Since the last two years she
has been living in Chennai where she has a studio
in her residence. She operates from Chennai and
shuttles between Chennai and Hyderabad
very frequently," said Shanta Ambady,
mother of Nandita who maintains the outlet in
Hyderabad.
 The
kind of stuff being displayed here are coloured
lamps, flower vases, curio pieces, serviette holders,
pen stands, napkin holders, boxes, clocks and small
'suncatchers' like butterflies, teddybears, hollies
and candles which can be hung against the light.
The textures of the glass vary along with the colour
in each item. "In many cases coloured glass
from abroad is used although I'm now using the Indian
glass as it is cheaper and more economical,"
Nandita says. The colour combination in Nandita's
glass works attract everyone. "As I am also
a water colour artist, I am able to use colours
effectively," says Nandita.
 Apart
from the colourful lamps, one of the eye-catching
products displayed here is 'Face mirrors'. They
are designed with motifs of small flowers and leaves.
