Hyderabad
is undoubtedly a place where art has got a good meaning.
It is because of many eminent artists who have taken the
city's pride on to the international platform and number
of art galleries that occupied in all corners of the twin
cities. Potti Sreeramulu Art Gallery which is
being housed in the premises of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu
University boasts of excellent facilities and is surely
a feather in the cap of Hyderabad.
Designed
with high standards, the air conditioned art gallery not
only motivates an artist to display his work but also
catches the eye balls of art connoisseurs. It has got
a single big spacious hall, where nearly fifty paintings
of general size, apart from sculptures can be displayed
at a time. According to University authorities, the lighting
facility provided in the gallery is the hallmark of this
place. "The infrastructure of the gallery has
been designed in keeping view the basic needs of an artist
as well as the present fast pacing world," said
Mr. Chennaiah, P.R.O of the University.
The
awe-inspiring art gallery is the result of untiring efforts
put by University authorities. "We have established
the gallery with an objective of helping artists who would
be charged a nominal rent in exhibiting their works. Even
a budding artist can happily display his works by investing
a meagre amount that he normally invests for a simple
canvas," Chennaiah says.
Apart
from the general exhibitions, University also plans to
conduct State level Painting competition cum exhibitions
in the art gallery. "We have a huge collection
of art works housed in the University and are planning
to exhibit the same whenever the gallery is free,"
says Chennaiah. "This is only to see that
visitors are satisfied all the time". The Potti
Sreeramulu Art Gallery has now become the only gallery
in the twin cities under Government 's control after ICCR
art gallery stopped its activities temporarily. "We
are confident of our success because every artist feels
proud to give his show in a traditionally built place
housed in a prestigious university" Chennaiah
says.

(IGNCA), New Delhi inaugurated this art gallery recently.
