We
all know about the real flowers as well as the artificially
replicated flowers that are showcased in interiors.
But do we know that there is one kind of flowers,
named Silk Flowers, which are neither real flowers
nor artificial ones? The silk flowers are nothing
but the conglomeration of both, where the stem is
taken from original tree while the flowers and leaves
are ingeniously done by using different materials.
The artificially done flowers are skillfully pierced
into the original stem to give the real tree look
with colourful flowers in full bloom.
The
rare and exotic range of aesthetic silk flowers
were displayed in an exhibition held recently at
Jubilee International Club by 'The Show Case',
city based leading importer of artificial flowers
and plants. The three day exhibition captivated
many flower connoisseurs of the twin cities. The
visitors were delighted to have greenery all at
one place.
"The silk flower manufacturing is a rare Chinese
art, that has the power to attract any eye. The
overall beauty of the flowers adds pleasant ambience
to interiors," said D.N. Shankar,
owner of The Show Case. The Silk flower manufacturing
is practiced in few places in India. In this art,
Silk flowers are created in two styles, flower bouquet
type having only flowers and plant type with both
flowers and stem.
The display showcased the finest range of bouquet
type and plant type silk flowers, which included
Persial Lilac, 84 Cm Philanopsis Orchid, Alpine
Gypsophilia, Romance Bishops Weed, Easter Lilly,
Agrapanthas, New Iris, Carthamus Spray, Freezia
Spray, Singapore Orchid, 100 Cm Philianopsis Orchid,
Lark Spur, Gerberal Natural in bouquet type division.
Ficus Tree, Jap Maple, Mini Jap Maple, Bamboo Tree,
Assrt Bamboo Tree, Assrt Bamboo,
Erica Palm Tree, New Ficus, Capensia, Mini Ficus,
Rucus Tree, Saki Tree, Bosten Fern, Mini Japanese
Maple were some plant type flowers displayed. Overall
120 varieties of flowers and 35 varieties of plants
were on display. The size of plants varied from
1.5 feet to 8 feet. The price ranged from Rs. 20
to Rs. 250 for flowers and Rs. 100 to 10,000 for
plants.
"The
objective behind organising this kind of expo is
to create awareness about the availability of high
quality imported varieties among the people of twin
cities," said Shankar. "Today's
indoor climate does not always allow the healthy
growth of real tropical plants. There are many places
in our homes or offices that need the aesthetic
effect of greenery, but lack the necessary lighting
and humidity to support live plants. Silk plants
and flowers add a warm and comfortable atmosphere
to any area of your home or office. People feel
relaxed in this artificial setting of plants and
flowers that are so real in looking. Moreover, these
flowers are easy to care for," Shankar
added when asked about the importance of Silk flowers.
