Honda
Motorcycle & Scooter India Limited (HMSI), a
100% subsidiary of the Honda Motor Company, Japan
- the world's largest manufacturer of two wheelers,
is all set to revert the present trend in the two-wheeler
market by attracting people to buy scooters with
its maiden product Honda Activa. The HMSI
launched, the much awaited, Honda Activa in twin
cities in the first week of July, 2001.
While
the the Indian youth is crazy about the bikes, why
Honda launched the scooter? Mr. Siraj, Marketing
Manager of the Fortune Motors, the first
dealer for HMSI in the twin cities , says, "before
venturing into Indian market HMSI, conducted several
surveys, which revealed that non availability of
the alternative scooter with better features in
the Indian market. For this obvious reason only
people shifting to bikes. Taking cue from these
revelations HMSI, launched its first product Honda
Activa, which has many new features. There is strong
belief in the industry, Honda Activa backed with
worldclass technology will not only over take the
Bajaj, LML and Kinetic in the scooters
segment, but it also revert the present trend in
the two-wheeler market favourable to scooters."
Honda
Activa comes with a host of features never seen
before. The first and foremost
plus point in the Activa is the puncture proof -
'Tuffup Tube". This 'tuffup' tube, basically
consists of two layers. A solution present in between
the two layers, seals immediately, any holes which
might happen in one of the layers due to a puncture.
"As the solution seals the puncture hole
immediately, you can drive upto 20-30 kilometers
without any problem. That means the tuffup tube,
facilitates to you to reach the nearest servicing
station, where you can repair your tube," explained
Mr. Srinivas Reddy, Sr. Sales Executive of
Fortune Motors. Besides the tuffup tube, the Activa
comes with 'CLIC' (Convenient Lift-up Independent
Cover), which means that the full metal body of
the scooter opens up like the bonnet of a car giving
easy access to the mechanics underneath for service
requirements. The headlight of the Honda scooter,
which incorporates built-in turn signals, has multi
reflectors. The multi-reflector lens serves to give
better illumination in all conditions, even if the
lens gets damaged. This is being introduced for
the first time in India in the scooter segment.
The engine of the Honda Activa has specifically
been designed for Indian roads. The Activa is powered
by a 102cc engine with automatic transmission which
produces extremely low noise and pollution. The
famed Honda 4-stroke technology delivers the twin
advantages of superior performance and fuel economy.
With 6-litre fuel tank, the Honda Activa gives you
50 KMPL in city conditions.
Breaking
conventional barriers, the Honda Activa looks quite
unlike the traditional scooter, and is aimed at
people who would prefer a scooter that is neither
too big nor too small. The ex-showroom price of
the Activa in twin cities is Rs. 34, 546. With life
tax and insurance it will costs you Rs. 37, 552.
Mr Srinivas Reddy says, "compared to other
4-stroke scooters in the market, the maintainance
and spare parts cost of the Activa will be less".
