The
traffic on the Necklace Road came to a
stand still on Sunday the 4th March 2001, as all
roads led to the Hyundai Car Carnival being held
on the banks of the Hussainsagar. The reason
for the heavy turnout of the people could be the
duty cuts announced by Finance Minister Yashwant
Sinha on cars, in the Budget 2001-02 or the growing
craze for the latest cars among the Hyderabadis.
"Hyundai Motors India is organising the
show in all major cities of India, in order to
promote the existing models. At the same time
we are introducing the forthcoming models to prospective
buyers," said Rafique in charge of the
Hyderabad carnival. There were small cars, big
cars, luxurious limosines. The entire Hyundai
fleet was there for one to see - Santros, Accents
and of course the new machines on the block
- Sonata, Tiburon Turbulence, Grandeur XG.
And much more.
Old
as well as young and married couples with their
children thronged the venue to have a glance at
the new cars. The people who aspire to be the
proud owners of a car for the first time were
inquiring about the price and features of the
available models in the market - Santro and Accent.
On the other hand, business people and executives
who were already owners of the some brand of cars
were eyeing the shining sedans - Turbulence and
Grandeur. As a cool breeze blew from the Hussainsagar
Lake people walked by the hot cars slowly, stopping
and scanning the bright colour, the polished finish,
the futuristic interiors, cruise control, power
windows, the wide tyres and many more.
Most
of the visitors were mesmerised by the shimmering
looks of the Tiburon Turbulance. The two door,
four seater sports car priced at about 17 lakhs,
is supposed to be launched in the year 2003. Most
of the businessmen who visited the carnival showed
interest in another future launch Grandeur XG,
priced at about 23 lakhs and with looks that match
a Mercedes Benz. Of all the new varieties displayed
at the show, Sonata is set to hit the Indian roads
in June 2001.
There
was much more than gleaming cars to the carnival.
Hi-decibel music, dances to cheer up the visitors,
and an instant quiz that could win you anything
from a car music system to a car carpet and even
security systems.
According to the marketing person at the show, the
market share of the Hyundai cars in the twin cities
is 18%. The two dealers of Hyderabad and Secunderabad,
Lakshmi Hyundai and Talwar Hyundai together sold
3,500 cars since Hyundai launched its products in
India.
