In
these days of electronic media it is not easy to
run a magazine. More so if the magazine is in Hindi
and wholly devoted to Hindi poetry. Precisely why
it was a happy occasion when Golconda Darpan
(meaning Golconda Mirror), a literary monthly mainly
devoted to Hindi poetry, celebrated its first anniversary
at the Rajasthani Snatak Sangh auditorium.
The celebration, comprising a seminar on "Trends
in Hindi Poetry", a multi-lingual poetry
session and release of a collection of poems 'Pranay
Ruchayen' by Acharya Bhagwat Dubey of
Jabalpur, was inaugurated by Dr. Radheshyam Shukla,
Editor, Swatantra Vaarta and was presided
by Prof. Dilip Simh.Munindra-ji,
the veteran journalist and founder-editor of Dakshin
Samachar released the special anniversary issue
of Golconda Darpan.
This
poetry magazine, the only of its kind in India,
has already made a mark in the field of Hindi literature.
Besides giving profiles of poets along with best
samples of their latest creations, the magazine
has a special section devoted to humour and sarcasm
and to Dakhhani poetry, the latter being a speciality
of Hyderabad. There are regular reviews of poetry
volumes and translations of poetry from other languages.
However, what lends it an added seriousness is the
studied and well thought out bunch of articles on
various aspects of ancient and modern poetry and
poetry writing. Golconda Darpan, almost from its
nascent issue, has also tread on a courageous path
by taking up cudgels against existing evils in the
field of poetry and cleansing it. Like for instance,
the practice of certain poets to 'buy' awards and
flaunt them. The young thirty-ish founder-editor
Govind Akshay has received a whole hearted
support from his readers for this cleansing drive.
Ably
helping the editor is Divya Jyoti while Narendra
Simh looks after the office administration.
The devotion of the Golconda Darpan team is underscored
by the fact that, laudably, the entire process of
editing and printing is done honorarily. The over
60 page-issue, with attractive reproductions of
paintings and other Indian art, is priced at Rs
7.Subscription rates are Rs 80 for one year, Rs
140 for two years, Rs 500 for lifetime and Rs 1,
100 for becoming a Patron.
