As a result of the slump in the U.S economy leading
to wide scale unemployment and an outcry against the
H1-B visas, which are benefiting countries like India
particularly in the area of software exports and IT,
a republican congress man in the U.S has proposed to
eliminate all H1-B category visas in a new 15-line bill.
The bill urges an outright cancellation of the H1-B
programme in order to provide more jobs to the American
nationals.
This year the total number of H1-B visas is expected
to drop to 30,000 as against a total number of 77,000
H1-B visas in 2001. For the last two years since U.S
economy slipped into a slump 40,000 Indian H1-B visa
holders have returned back to their mother land India.
