 How
many of us have proficiency in Microsoft Packages
like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FrontPage and
Access? Only very few. But a small kid who is supposed
to learn alphabets and rhymes at kindergarten is playing
with all these computer software packages with elan. Believe
it or not he is just four years old and creating magic
with a laptop in hand. He is child prodigy Master Ajay
Puri of Hyderabad.
Ajay can work on all Microsoft packages. He gave an
hour-long presentation of his computer skills at Administrative
Staff College of  India
(ASCI), which surprised everyone present in the hall.
Using a laptop, Ajay created a file in Excel by entering
salaries of different persons of an organisation. He took
his family as an organisation and its members as employees.
He entered the salaries of his father, mother, younger
brother and his own. He presented the data in a graphic
format and answered queries like who gets highest salary
and whose salary is less than Rs. 2000. Then he moved
on to PowerPoint to create a slide show with animation
and sounds effects. This he did with in minutes like a
true professional. When Ajay created a three page website
with hyperlinks, pictures buttons and dynamic HTML, the
enitre hall was reverberated with sounds of claps. The
people present there praised Ajay in unison.
 Born
in Hyderabad, Ajay went to Bangkok (Thailand) with
his parents Ravi Puri and Mamata. Ravi Puri is an employee
of Aditya Birla Group and presently posted in Thailand.
Ravi Puri, Ajay's father says, "I observed his
interest in computers and encouraged him to learn the
simple packages. He started with Microsoft Word then went
on to learn Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Now he is able to
send and receive e-mails on his own, using OutlookExpress.
When the Microsoft Thailand heard about Ajay's talent
, they invited him to give a presentation. Impressed with
his skills, he Microsoft people presented him the latest
version of website designing package, FrontPage 2000.
Using this package, Ajay built his own website 'microsoftkid.com',
( Ajay interrupts and says 'it is www dot microsoftkid
dot com'). At the age of 3 years, he became the youngest
web designer in the world. Yet to be registered in the
Gunnies Book of World Records."
"Ajay spends about 15-20 minutes in a day
with the computer. We never forced him to sit before the
computer. We instruct him only  when
he wants," said his mother Mamta Puri. "Though
he is always with computers, Ajay's father doesn't allow
him to play computer games," said his grandfather.
At a tender age age of four Ajay captured the attention
of the world with his IT skills. He was featured in all
the leading dailies, magazines and TV Channels of India
and abroad. His talent helped him to meet political bigwigs
like Prime Minister Vajpayee, President K.R.
Narayanan, AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu
and former US president Bill Clinton. He
was awarded with talent certificates from world's premiere
IT companies like Mann Group, Intel, etc. Ajay
is fond of Bollywood films and his favourite star is Shahrukh
Khan. He is now studying at Harrows International
School, Bagnkok.
 Ajay
uses only Microsoft Products. He demonstrated to the world
how these products convert the computer into a child's
toy. But what has he got in return for giving publicity
to the Microsoft products? He received a copy of 'Business
@ Speed of Thought', written by Microsoft Chairman
Bill Gates with his autograph. Ajay is desperately
waiting for an appointment with the mighty Gates. His
ultimate goal is to become another Bill Gates. Presently
he is concentrating on Visual Basic, SQL Server and
also networking with Window 2000 Server. We wish
him best of luck in his future endeavours. |
