Where
do you get the latest information on computer hardwares
and softwares available in the market? Probably
such information can be gotten from a leading computer
dealer in the City. But, no dealer is able to give
the complete details of more than three or four
brands. Because he deals in those brands only. And
certainly only the brands he sells would be the
best and new in the market. So how does one go about
getting the best deal? The simple way is to drop
into computer related exhibitions that held often
in the City. One such exhibition was conducted by
Cyber Expo Limited, in Hyderabad from 16 to
18 February 2001 at Satya Sai Nigamagamam, Hyderabad.
The
PC Quest 2000/2001 series computer exhibition
was back in Hyderabad after a gap of 6 months. About
33 companies from Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi and
Bangalore displayed their products in the
exhibition. The main attraction of the exhibition
was a spectacular display of sleek, portable notebook
computers and full flat LCD monitors. Sharp Corporation,
Japan displayed its latest notebook PCs and
digital photo copiers-cum-printers. Most of the
visitors at the exhibition were amazed to see the
Sharp PC-AX20 note book with 12GB Hard disk,
Intel PIII Processor, 64MB
RAM, weighing approximately 1.6 kg. "It
costs Rs. 1,48,000 only. I think it is better to
have a Sharp Note book than the Home PC, because
the note book PC has all the properties of the home
PC," explained Mr. Naresh, a software
engineer working in Intelligroup. Another
attractive product at the exhibition was the ThumbDrive,
the smallest hard disk which looks like an eraser.
It can save up to 512MB of data. You can store your
important files in the ThumbDrive and take it with
you wherever you go. If you have a ThumbDrive, which
works on USB port, you need not carry the
laptop or notebook everywhere.
Internet
Service Providers (ISPs) like VSNL, Sify
offered special discount packages to visitors.
Sify offered a special Unlimited Internet Access
package at Rs 399 only. Apart from Hardware dealers,
Software developers particularly of e-commerce
and e-governance were prominently seen at the
exhibition. Antares Systems Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore
which develops e-commerce, Banking, ERP and CRM
applications was at the exhibition to find a suitable
partner for marketing its products in Andhra Pradesh.
"We recently developed a software related
to all Tenders called Tenderwizard in compliance
with the World Bank guidelines. We came here to
find a suitable partner who can help us to sell
this software to A.P. Government and other governmental
establishments. The AP government is implementing
a good number of world bank aided projects and the
fore runner in e-governance," said Dr
R. Kamath, Business Executive of Antares Systems.
IDG
Publications displayed its latest titles ranging
from Microsoft Office-2000 to the latest
PhotoShop 6.0. Nowadays free gifts and special
rebates are the common phenomena at various exhibitions.
The PC Quest exhibition was not an exception to
this. Compage Data Products offered a Sony
CD-ROM for Rs 40 and a box of 10 Sony Floppies
for Rs.120. You will be surprised to know that
an unbranded CD-ROM costs just Rs.18! A wide range
of computer peripherals like microphones, speakers,
printer ribbons and ink catridges was
also available. Many enthusiastic visitors were
seen enquiring on the features and prices of various
products, collecting brochures and visiting
cards of the contact persons so that they can contact
later if the product is suitable for their requirements.
The organisers conducted lucky dip contest
every two hours and presented valuable CDs with
useful softwares to the winners as gifts.
Dedicated to promote IT awareness and usage among
Hyderabadis, the PC Quest Series Hyderabad was
the 6th annual event to happen in Cyberabad. |
