In
1991, BVR Mohan Reddy, the man who is known to
have introduced CAD/GIS to India, ventured to form his
own company. The result of which was InfoTech Enterprises
Limited, a city-based software company which offers
end-to-end solutions in the areas of GIS, CAD and e-business.
The company's mission was to "integrate technology
and talent for the 90s and beyond".
Even as the nineties saw Hyderabad evolve into an IT
citadel, InfoTech grew, reporting impressive returns.
In March 1997, the company went public, with its own
initial public offering (IPO). On 17 December, 1998,
InfoTech signed a break-through contract to provide
GIS conversion, consulting and mapping services worth
US $ 5.5 million (Rs. 23.40 crores) to US based Analytical
Surveys Inc. Within a year, the company acquired
Cartographic Sciences from Analyticals Surveys
Inc. On 17 June 1999, InfoTech also acquired Dataview
Solutions Limited, a UK based GIS Software Company.
Today the company has two overseas subsidiaries; London-based
Infotech Enterprises Europe and Information Software
Solutions Inc, based in California, USA.

Infotech's range of services include digitization
of drawings/maps, photogrammetry, application software
development, software product development, consulting
and implementation. In Hyderabad, its work is carried
out in a 130,000 square feet, state-of-the-art software
centre located in Madhapur, near Hitec city. Inaugurated
by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu
in January 2000, this centre is the largest in India
and among the top three in the Asia Pacific region.
InfoTech's global customers include several Fortune
100 companies in U.S.A., Europe, Japan and Australia.
The company has about 1200 professionals who deliver
high quality output. In fact in September 1999, Infotech
was awarded the Fast Track Award from Smallworld
Systems Private Ltd, UK, for completing a GIS project
at Bharati Telenet Limited, in a record time
of five months. The company's consolidated unaudited
group income for the first quarter ending June 30, 2000
was Rs. 24.66 crore and net profit was Rs. 7.18 crore.
Today multinationals like General Electric International
and Walden International have a stake in
the company. Infotech
is now gearing up to meet the challenges of the new
millennium. With the aim to become a "global software
powerhouse", the company has drawn up a document
called Infovision, a growth document for the
year 2003. The document addresses issues like growth
strategy as well as strategies to create value within
the organisation. According to CEO Mohan Reddy, "The
company will be in the top ten players in the world".
