Visaka Industries Limited was
established in 1981 as Visaka Asbestos Cement
Products Ltd. The company's name was changed
to Visaka Industries Ltd. in 1990. It is engaged
in manufacturing of building products and
synthetic blended yarn.
Visaka Industries is jointly promoted by Andhra
Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (APIDC),
Dr. G. Vivekanad, G. Vinod and G. Kalavathi.
The company's building products plants are located
at Yelumala village in Medak district near Hyderabad
and at Manickanatham village in Namakkal district
in Tamil Nadu. Visaka diversified its business
into Textiles in 1992 to manufacture yarn
using state-of-the-art Twin Air Jet spinning technology.
Ever since its inception, the spinning division
of the company has been making steady progress on
the export front. The company participated in the
yarn show in Manchester (UK) and Prato
(Italy) in November 1985. The spinning division
manufactures polyester & viscose blended yarn.
The product is used in suitings, shirtings and dress
materials. The synthetic blended yarn factory is
located at Chiruva village in Nagpur. Visakha,
an ISO 9002 certified company now, is the
biggest unit with MTS insulation in the world,
producing 5000 metric tonnes of yarn per year.
The company's exports during 1998-99 were 1232 lakh
as against Rs. 1146 lakh in the previous year. The
company's turnover increased from Rs. 94.96 crore
in 1996-97 to Rs. 111.16 crore by the end of March
1999. The company is promoting a separate corporate
entity Visaka Cement Industry Ltd. to set
a up a cement plant at a cost of Rs. 300
crore.
