The
Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI)
is a pioneer in post-experience management education
in the country. The college was set up during 1956 at
the joint initiative of the Indian Industry and the
Government. Combining a unique blend of Management Development,
Consultancy, Research and Computer Services, ASCI has
remained the leader and pacesetter in developing professionalism
in management.
The
ASCI regularly offers around hundred and thirty courses
catering to different managerial levels in both general
management area and on very specialised topics. It has
consolidated its premier status as the "College
for Practicing Managers", giving people in
industry and government, a unique opportunity for introspection,
intellectual renewal and an updating and sharpening
of skills. It also offers useful company training programmes
that are tailored to serve the particular needs of an
organisation. It has conducted such programmes for companies
like: Larsen & Toubro, NMDC, ONG, Ranbaxy,
etc.
The
ASCI provides consultancy to industry, business and
government in general management as well as functional
and sectorial areas of management. The objective of
ASCI Consultancy is to provide professional services
for improving management practices in the organizations
leading to improved economic performance and long-term
effectiveness. Some of the areas in which consulting
assistance has been provided by ASCI include strategic
planning, organisational restructuring, human resources
management and development, health management, organisation
management, forest management, energy management and
business process re-engineering. Over 585 assignments
have been carried out since 1965. ASCI's expert contribution
as consultants is also highly valued by its clientele.
It has an impressive track record, having served reputed
organisations like: Bharat Dynamics, BPL, ECIL, HPCL,
Govt of Andhra Pradesh, RBI, RITES, UGC, US AID, World
Bank, etc.
The
ASCI has over fifty strong interdisciplinary faculty
engaged in Research, Training and Consultancy. Originally
modelled on the renowned Management College, Henley,
UK, the College's faculty are grouped into area
specialisations, each headed by an Area Chairman. Presently,
the areas are: Agriculture and Rural Development, Computers
& MIS, Economics, Energy, Environment & Technology,
General Management, Human Development Resources, Marketing,
Operations Management, Public Policy and Systems, Social
Services and Strategic Management.
The
college has two campuses - one in Khairatabad
(Bella Vista campus) and the other in Banjara Hills.
The Bella Vista campus, located on Raj Bhavan Road
is housed in a heritage building. The building was initially
the official residence of the crown prince Azam Jah
of the erstwhile Hyderabad State. Built in 1934, in
the Indo-European style, the building is characterized
by its sweeping arches and perfect proportions. ASCI
Bella Vista Campus has 100 well-appointed air-conditioned
single rooms with washrooms for convenience. The Dining
Hall and lounges provide opportunities for informal
interaction among participants and the faculty. ASCI
has a new campus (Centre for Management Education -
CME) at Road No.3, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad where long
and short duration programs are conducted. CME campus
has 57 well appointed air-conditioned rooms with all
facilities. Both campuses (Bella Vista and CME) provide
excellent computing and Internet facilities for the
use of participants.
The college library is acknowledged as one of the finest
in the country for its collection on a wide array of
management topics. It has also a very organised collection
of journals and periodicals that are efficiently accessed
to serve the faculty and programme participants. Besides
Billiards and indoor games, the college has Badminton,
Croquet and Tennis courts and a Swimming
pool.
ASCI has so far helped over 60,000 middle and senior
level managers from the Indian and International corporate
and Government sector to upgrade their knowledge and
skills for managing commercial as well as non-commercial
organisations.
