History:
The Osmania Medical College owes its existence
to His Highness Nawab Nasir-ud's sudden illness
during the year 1843. When the treatment of his personal
doctor did not relive him of his discomfort, the Nawab
took the medication of Dr. Lean, one of the English
doctors. This doctor's treatment improved The Nizam's
condition and made him realise the power of modern medicine
This realisation proved to be the dawn of the Osmania
Medical College in the year 1846.
The medium of instruction was at first in  Urdu,but
later replaced by English in 1866. On 28th June, 1952
the Medical college was transferred from the University
to the administrative control of the Government and
an officer was posted to look after both the college
and the teaching hospital.
Osmania medical college is one of the premier medical
teaching institutions in India. It has on its rolls some
of the eminent professors and doctors in India. They help
the students understand and practice the complex profession
of medicine. They train the students in various medical
techniques and well verse them in their respective fields.
The campus of this college is lush green and has magnificent
buildings built in the old antiquated style. The college
has well - equipped and upgraded departments of pre -
clinical, para- clinical and clinical subjects. It admits
200 under graduate students and 186 post - graduate students
in various disciplines both in Specialities and
Super Specialities every year.
The students are admitted in to this college through
EAMCET ( Engineering and Medical Common Entrance
Test ). Osmania medical college also offers a host
of post graduation courses and nine super specialty
courses. This institution has airy classrooms and mammoth
labs and a library well furnished with books. The college
library is one of the best in Hyderabad with a seating
capacity for about 500 students, separately for UGs
and PGs. Each department has got its own
library. It also offers excellent boarding facility
for its students. Osmania University has eleven teaching
hospitals attached to it. These teaching hospitals aid
the budding doctors to understand and practice medicine
under the guidance of experienced doctors.
Osmania medical college's mission is to mould its students
