The Osmania College for Women is one
of the premier institutions dedicate d
to women's education. Starting with just seven students
in 1924, the college has today, a student- strength of
2,600 and a faculty comprising of 130 teachers.
The main college, with its painted ceilings, huge darbar
halls, parquet floors with inlaid wood, is a monument
of great aesthetic and architectural value. It was built
in 1803 by Lt. Samuel Russell.
Currently, the institute offers thirty five subjects at
the undergraduate level. Post graduation degree courses
in Science, Arts, Commerce, Computers and Business are
also offered. In addition, students can choose from post-graduation
diploma courses in Child Psychology, Management Information
System and Computer Application (MISCA) and Office Management.
Students are encouraged to participate in sports, NCC
and NSS activities. The Institute also has a firing range
and a parade ground for the NCC cadets. Cultural and literary
activities too have an important place in the activities
of the college.
In recognition of its achievements, the University Grants
Commission (UGC) has selected the college for the 'A
College of Excellence' award. It has also a Five
Star accreditation by the National Assessment and
Accreditation Council, Bangalore.
