 Renewable
Energy Systems (RES), was born in 1985, when
the term 'Environment Friendly' was not
popular and threat of depleting energy resources
loomed large over the world economy. Today the
company has emerged as the pioneer in innovative
solar power solutions. With indigenous technology
development, now RES is one of the largest solar
cell and module manufacturers in India.
"Our premium,
cost-effective solar modules have successfully
conformed to international standards, while meeting
the demanding requirements of the European
and Australian markets," said Mr.
P.S. Chandra Shekhar, a key person of the
company. RES has developed a whole stable of products
whose applications span the domestic, commercial,
rural and industrial sectors. These include, Solar
power plants, portable lanterns, power packs,
street lights, pu mping
systems, rural radio telephones. "Our
range of custom designed solar systems include
mineral water plants and Adlites for
outdoor advertising, solar ATMs, solar traffic
booths and solar domestic lighting systems,"
pointed Mr. Chandra Shekhar.
The Solar Photo Voltaic
module manufacturing unit at RES has an installed
capacity base of 10 MW per annum. "Our
state-of -the-art crystalline silicon solar cell
manufacturing facility also has an installed capacity
of 10 MW per annum, making it possible for us
to cater to both domestic and international markets,"
said with pride Mr. Chandra Shekhar.
 The
unique production plan at RES comprise of several
steps like Understanding customer need, Putting
together functional specifications of the product,
Proposition of alternate models by task forces,
Addition of refinements by our user representatives,
etc. The developed prototype will be evaluated
at both in-house and on-field. And that is not
final, it will be sent to to a pre-production
run to ensure its cost effectiveness. This fool
proof process helped RES to won high profile customers
like HDFC Bank, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, ICICI
Bank.
 "These
one and half decades have brought us many accolades
such as the National award for R&D excellence
in industry in 1990, the CII & FAPCCI
award for best technological development in industry
in 1991, and the National award for indigenisation
from the Ministry of Defence in 1995,"
said Mr. Chandra Shekhar.
The core strengths of
RES, include identifying new markets, and offering
innovative solutions. The highest turnover achieved
by the company was Rs. 140 cr in 1996-97.
