It
was a Saturday night. Cool breeze blowing across the
trees of Bagh-e-aam made the atmosphere lovely.
Thousands of people gathered at the sprawling Lalitha
Kala Thoranam in the heart of the city. They were
waiting eagerly by holding their breath for the unfolding
of one of the biggest entertainment shows ever held
in Hyderabad. The 48th South Indian Manikchand Filmfare
awards. How can anyone miss such a star studded
show? Not the Hyderabadis who love films and its film
industry which has the distinction of producing the
highest number of films in a year. Obviously all roads
of the city lead to Public Gardens on that glamour filled
night.
The
stage was perfectly set and as the lights flashed onto
the stage, a beautiful girl emerged, put her foot forward,
folded her hands and danced with so much panache that
the audience was spellbound. The astounding performance
came from none other than Aishwarya, the charming
and beautiful daughter of Tamil superstar Rajnikanth.
It was just the beginning of the show and there was
much in store for the audience who thronged the venue
at Public Gardens.
As the awardees climbed on to the stage to receive the
awards, the entire venue reverberated with sounds of
clapping. And why not? After all, the awards are a testimony
to the hardwork put up by the artistes. First to receive
the award was brilliant Kannada actor Vishnu Vardhan
who was adjudged the best actor for his sterling performance
in Yajamana. The best actress
award went to Sudha Rani for her emotionally
charged role in sparsha. In Malayam, Mammotty bagged
the best actor award for his indomitable role in Karunam.
Mamootty received the award from yesteryears beauty
queen Jayaprada. Known for his powerful portrayals
Mammotty did not spend much time on the dais, just said
thank you and left the stage disappointing the crowd
who were eager to hear something from the maestro. Madhavan
who stole the hearts of milions of fans won the best
newomer award for his Tamil film Alai Payuthey.
Awards
,dances, film stars, the evening was full of fun and
frolic. As the stars from South and Bollywood descended
on Lalitha Kala Thoranam, the entire venue wore a festive
look. The audience enjoyed every moment of the star
packed night. When mast mast girl Raveena
Tandon came on the stage the crowd went into raptures.
The award winning actress danced to the songs of meri
ye jawani mera picha na chode from 'Shool' and Ishq
ladaii from film 'Chotemiyaan Bademiyaan'. She pulled
Hero No 1 Govinda who was sitting in the
front row on to the stage and both danced amidst whistles
and clapping. It was undoubtedly the smash hit of the
night. Then came Maachis girl Tabu who
set the stage on fire with her popular numbers from
Prema desam and Ninne Pelladutha. Pooja
Batra, Nuvve kavali pair Richa and
Tarun also mesmerized the audience.
Lifetime
achievement awards were presented to doyen of cinema
D Ramanaidu and Malayalam actress Sheela.
Both are Guinness book record holders, the former for
producing the highest number of films cutting across
language barriers and the later for acting with a single
hero Prem Nazir in a record breaking 107 films.
Cinema is my single most passion and I would continue
to produce films, said Ramanaidu after receiving
the award.
The awards night ended with presenting awards for Telugu
films. Venkatesh won the best actor award for his super
performance in Jayam Manadera. He received the award
from 'Badshah' of bolywood Shahrukh Khan.
The latest heartthrob Richa won the best
actress award for her role in the super duper hit 'Nuvve
Kavali'.
Home
and Cinematography Minister T Devender Goud, Nagarjuna,
Amala, Soundarya, Namrata Shirodkar, Tamil
