Cinegoers are in for a grand feast of special effects. The
kind hitherto unseen in
Indian films. All this when Deviputhrudu, a
socio-fantasy gets released in theatres across the country
in three languages - Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. If the filmmakers
are to be believed, it is perhaps the first time in the history
of Indian films that any banner has used 3D virtual sets to
recreate history and fantasy all in one.
A more important aspect of this film is that it also signifies
the maturing of the Indian special effects industry, which
is increasingly depending on the IT industry for inputs.
Ceeyes Digimage of Hyderabad, which is a 100 per cent
subsidiary of Ceeyes Software Technologies (CST) has
taken the task of creating challenging special effects for
Deviputhrudu. These effects are to last for around
25 minutes in the lavish Rs. 15 crore production. After handling
several key projects in the areas of special effects, animation
and robotics, Ceeyes Digimage have deservingly won the estimated
one-million-dollar contract from the producers of Deviputhrudu.
"Deviputhrudu
is where our complete concentration is right now and we are
dedicated in making this venture a success," said Chaganti,
President of CST. "Utilising the opportunity given by Raju,
the producer of the film," he continued, "we want
to prove beyond doubt that we in the Telugu film industry
can do it. We can develop special effects on par, if not of
superior class, with Hollywood's."
Besides the never-before special effects, the film also boasts
of featuring top stars to hold the audiences' pulse. Victory
Venkatesh, Soundarya and Bollywood
actress Anjala Jhaveri are enacting the main roles
in it. Venkatesh, who is known to collect victories in film
after film, seems to have set out to gain yet another one.
Deviputhrudu's story is an amalgamation of history
and fantasy.
K. Ramakrishna directs it. The film has Sabu Cyril
(remember Kalapani?) as art director and
S. Elangovan as special effects in-charge. The most
elaborate underwater set of Dwaraka city, was
created at Salem, Tamil Nadu and two more sets at Annapurna
Studios in Hyderabad.
The very fact that it is getting talked about so much even at
the making stage, indicates the great confidence of its makers.
And also the great expectations of the viewers. |
