 TOLLYWOOD RACE : WHO WINS?

Venkatesh and SoundaryaThe festive season may have passed away with Sankranti, but has left moviegoers of three states with many movies to watch. The release of three mega budget movies of three leading heroes at the same time, has left the moviegoers and fans with high expectations to see their 'dream' hero emerge victorious. The whole industry awaits with bated breath too.

Gearing to fightThe first and foremost among these is Chiranjeevi's 'Mrugaraju'. Simultaneously, Balakrishna starrer 'Narasimha Naidu' and Deviputhrudu, starring Venkatesh, hit the big screen. Together these three movies are supposed to have done a business of Rs.50 crore. The cost of production of these pictures might have been around Rs.30 Crore. Just three pictures doing business of such a magnitude is a sort of record for Tollywood. These three movies will have simultaneious release in 350 to 400 theatres in Andhra Pradesh, as well as Karnataka and Orissa. As all these movies happen to be made in DTS they are taking extra precautions to select only theatres with good sound system.

Chiranjeevi and SimranAll eyes are set on the Chiranjeevi starrer Mrugaraju. His fans have waited eagerly for this movie, especially since this is his first movie after a year's hiatus. The major attraction for this movie is an African lion, which plays an important role. A part of the movie was shot on location in South Africa to bring the reality on to the screen. Perhaps this is the first movie in Telugu to be made with such a novel story line. "Lion is called the king of animals. Since the hero in this movie conquers that king, he too can be called a king, or rather king of kings", says Devi Varaprasad, Producer of the film. Gunasekhar directed this film, which is reported to have done a record business.

Roaring for one more hitVenkatesh's dual rolled Devi Puthrudu was also made with a fat budget. This is a graphic oriented socio-fantasy movie. Kodi Ramakrishna, past-master of Graphic films has directed the movie. It is perhaps the first time in the history of Indian films that any banner has used 3D virtual sets to recreate history and fantasy all in one. This technologically superior movie is made with a story, which is different from the usual and with a different narration.

Venkatesh and SoundaryaAfter being successful as Samarasimha Reddy, this time Balakrishna is appearing in a new avatar, Narasimha Naidu. The film Narasimha Naidu is a regular commercial film. Once again, B.Gopal, who directed the all-time record film, Samarasimha Reddy is directing this film. This new movie, with the combination of these two, has created enough interest unlike the otehr Balakrishna starrers. Balakrishna's fans are expecting more and awaiting its fate with interest.

Every spectator is a judge for this colourful competetion in an auspicious season. Be a part of it.
