Adnan
Sami Khan, who took the music world by storm with
his superhit album 'Kabhi to Nazar Milao' will
be performing live at Treasure Island on June 30.
Here is a profile on the chubby faced brilliant singer-composer
from Toronto.
Adnan Sami lives and breathes music. This accomplished
pianist and composer started playing the piano when he
was five and composing music when he was nine. Hailed
as a child prodigy by the BBC, Adnan is a master on the
keyboard and plays a variety of other instruments including
the violin and tabla. Though he was not from a musical
family, he got formally trained in a music school called
Rugby in western classical and other genres. In Bombay,
he trained under Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma in Indian
classical music.
He grew up listening to music ranging from Chopin and
Mozart to Beatles and Bee Gees. He says the learning process
still goes on and that he is not partial to any genre
or artiste. He counts 'Pakeezah' as one of his
all-time favourites. 'One and Only' (Magnasound),
his debut album, featured Adnan and Ustad Zakir
Hussain on the tabla. The break came his way when
he was becoming popular for playing Indian classical music
on the piano, a western instrument. The Magnasound people
felt that Adnan and Zakir would make great music together
- and they did. His romantic album, 'Kabhi to Nazar
Milao' with Asha Bhonsle was a super hit. Particularly,
the song 'thodi si lift kara dey' beacame very
popular.
Adnan,
who is an ardent admirer of Asha Bhonsle met her in London
when he was 10. He says it was a great honour to have
sung with her. For him, it was a dream come true. Especially
since the duo recorded the album in London. His recent
album, 'Mausam', has once again been declared a
hit too.
Adnan has said that music is the deepest and most profound
form of expression. Life, he says, is a musical journey
- a journey which allows him to delve deep into his consciousness
and brings him joy. And it brings joy to countless others
too.
Ever since his songs have hit the chartbuster, this rolly
polly singer has been lured by filmmakers to sing for
their films. Adnan will soon begin a new journey into
the film world. Showman Subhash Ghai has signed
him to compose the music of Mukta Arts forthcoming film.
He is also appearing in a guest role in Anupam Kher
directed film 'Om Jai Jagdish'.
