He had dreamed of becoming an I.A.S officer
but magically things changed and he entered in to the
film industry as a music director. And with just two pictures,
he has become the much preferred man in the industry.

This young music director is none but R.P. Patnaik,
who contributed a chart busting music to the latest Telugu
box office hits, Nee kosam and Chitram.
Through these two opportunities he has also proved
his distinctness, mainly by the use of 'heavy metal
music' for 'Chitram'. Patnaik has thus become the
first music director to use it.
While studying Master of Science (Space technology)
in Andhra University, Patnaik had I.A.S.
as his goal. He came to Hyderabad and joined an I.A.S
coaching centre. One of his friends had some contacts
with the film industry people. One day, he had gone to
a function with his friend where he was introduced to
the film director Srinivas Vytla. While talking
pleasanteries, the film director perceived that Patnaik
had hardly any knowledge of music. He had just sung a
song or two during the college anniversary.
On the spur of the moment, Srinivas Vytla, who was thinking
of experimenting with music for his film 'Neekosam', offered
a surprising opportunity Patnaik. R.P.Patnaik grabbed
it and agreed to compose music for it. He did it. Quite
nicely. And Patnaik succeeded as a music director in his
very first film. His success fetched him a second opportunity.
Of composing music for 'Chitram' under the well - known
banner Usha Kiron Movies. Patnaik once again succeeded.
Not just succeede, but made history by the use of heavy
metal sounds.
"I did not learn any music from any one, I just love music
and singing songs. More than composing, I love to sing,"
says Patnaik. None of his family members had anything
to do with music. He has made it up on his own. Was it
difficult to stand up on his own? He feels that music
directors are not much respected in Hyderabad there."
I will try my level best to change the scene," he
says confidently. We can't say about the general scene
but if Patnaik continues to give such appealing compositions,
he will find respect all around.
