Virgin Records India, in association with Charms
Companion hosted the first of its kind 'Listening
Session' in Hyderabad at 'Escape' Pub in Green Park
hotel ,where the audience comprising a mix of music
connoisseurs and lay listeners sampled some of the latest
releases by EMI-Virgin Records. The audiences were treated
to tracks from new releases like Pink Floyd's 'Echoes',
'The New Boy Band Blue', Mick Jagger's 'Goddess in the
Doorway', Kylie Minogue's 'Fever' with video tracks
from the EMI-Virgin Records repertoire.
After
the stupendous success of the Charms Companion tie-up
for co-promotion with Virgin Records of the greatest
hits series of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Scorpions,
Frank Sinatra, etc, Charms associated itself with Virgin
to co-promote 'Echoes' the best of Pink Floyd which
is a double CD/tape pack. The promo was launched in
mid December last year and will go on till the end of
February. "The idea of a Listening Session was born
out of the need to communicate to the music loving public,
not only the latest sounds from all over the globe but
also to provide information about their favourite artists
and idols. Although the listening sessions reinforce
the idea that music is something as dynamic and ever
changing as the personalities who bring it to us, it
also shows us that some sounds don't fade away with
time, and that some acts, though decades old, still
have the same effect on today's youth as they had 30
years ago," says Mr Shameer Tandon, Marketing
Manager, Virgin Records.
Virgin
Records has held two Listening Sessions so far. The
first one was held in Mumbai at Hotel Royal Garden on
the 10th of November 2001 and was widely appreciated.
It was compered by well-known radio jockey, Siddharth
Kannan, who entertained the audience throughout the
session. The other Listening Session was held on the
21st of December 2001 at Sydenham College in Mumbai
and was aimed to build rapport with the youth and to
provide them information about the new releases available
in the market and also about new albums that will be
coming out soon from Virgin Records.
The third Listening Session held in Hyderabad tried
to increase the scope of influence of these sessions,
outside Mumbai and into other cities where tastes and
influences differ from those in Mumbai. "Through
these Listening Sessions we are trying to gain information
on the listening habits of people. To find out their
tastes and preferences, which in turn would enable Virgin
Records to provide them with the kind of music, they
prefer. The Listening Sessions also helps to expose
the kind of music one doesn't often get to see in a
video. It is music that you would listen to on any given
Sunday or any other day of the week for that matter.
Its not about what's marketable, its about having a
good time, listening to the music you want to, and even
if it is something you haven't heard." says Mr Shameer
Tandon.
