there is and it is John's Bakery at Abids.
To visit the bakery is to go on a journey through
a world of cakes.
John's Bakery, one of the oldest bakeries in Hyderabad,
was established in 1911. It has its own speciality
to justify its fame as a special house for Christmas.
You have a plenty of choice to select your most
loved cake in different shapes and tastes. Every
cake makes the mouth water. Are the cakes at John's
bakery so delicious? Chocolate sponge, Chocolate
truffle icing, Butter Cream, Yule Log and
all other varieties of Christmas cakes are available
at the bakery. Though there are numerous varieties,
there is a special demand for rich Plum cake
and the Christmas Yule Log.
As
far as the plum cakes are related to Christmas,
no wonder John's bakery will be crowded through
out the merry season. This 80-year-old bakery located
in the busy Abids shopping area was founded by J.A.
D'souza. He was in the service of the erstwhile
minister Fakhrul-ulk, as his personal chef.
He was exposed to a number of visiting dignitaries
from all over the world and the Hyderabadi Nawabs
western tastes. The ebullient Goan with his
culinary expertise ventured into his own food business
and John's flourished under the patronage of the
elite. Now the third and even the fourth generation
of the founder's family are continuing the business.
D'souza's grandsons Fredrick and Mario
along with their families had turned this into
a purely family venture.
"It is not just a commercial prospect. It has
come down with generations and has the family's
personal touch. Even our children are involved,
" said Fredrick. John's bakery enjoys almost
a steady stream of customers throughout the year.
