Coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia in the
year 850 A.D. But only as recently as August 2000,
young Hyderabadis woke up with a bang to its wafting
aroma.
We take a look at the two coffee outlets that
have created quite a stir in the twin cities.
QWICKY'S COFFEE
- more than just a cup of coffee
"Hot, happening, one of the coolest places to
freak out." That's what customers have to
say about the new eatout on the block. Started
on August 4th, the Qwicky's Coffee House is
owned by Qwiky Corporation, a US based
company established by Sashi Chamiyo, an
NRI from Hyderabad. Qwicky's Hyderabad,
is the third such outlet following two others
in Chennai.
The place is a hit with the young and executive
crowd of the city. Quite contradictory to its
name, the coffee pub hopes to be a meeting ground
for people - to let them have a great time. Little
wonder that the waiters here are more like your
friendly bartender.
The blend of coffee is unique to Qwicky's,
with syrups and whipped creams being imported
from the US. The menu offers 101 coffee cocktails,
apart from sandwiches called Subs (trademarked
by Qwicky's) and desserts. First timers must check
out their Friazzo Biscayo, a coffee that
is as light and frizzy as snow. If you favour
tea, then go for the Teambra, a delicious
blend of tea and fruit. Customers can also have
a cocktail combination of their choice.
The outlet has tie ups with MTV, Royal Enfield,
Coke and Fone Range. Also available are books,
magazines, T-shirts and caps. Qwicky's will
soon open in the upmarket shopping outlet, Lifestyle.
Whether a coffee lover or not, a visit to
Qwicky's is a must. You will soon be counted
among the regulars.

COFFEE
DAY
- an international cafe experience
For
the coffee connoisseur, here's another exclusive
coffee house. Established by parent company ABC
Trading Ltd (which is one of the largest coffee
exporters in India) on August 5, Coffee Day,
just like its outlets in Bangalore hopes to provide
an international café experience. So just pick
up a mug of coffee and browse the net or just
chat with a friend!
Sprawling over 1800 square feet, Coffee Day
offers seven combinations of hot coffee, five
of cold coffee and three international flavours
that are imported from Columbia, Kenya and
Ethiopia. Also available are an assortment
of imported syrups. The cappuccino, caffelatte
and espresso are a hot favourite with
the customers. Those who like cold coffee must
try out their mochachilo, a coffee served
with crushed ice. Visitors must also sample the
burgers. Prices range from Rs. 20 for the hot
coffee to Rs. 30 for the international variety.
Coffee Day soon plans to launch an Espresso
Gallery to promote the work of young artists.
Plans are underway to set up three more outlets
in the city. All this is consistent with the Coffee
Day logo "just the place to be".
