a high tech Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with life support
systems imported from Germany, a Bird Avian transport
ventilator imported from the United States, and a host
of other imported equipment.
Some of Rainbow's pediatric super speciality services
are neonatology, neurology, ENT, dermatology, dentistry,
endocrinology, haematology, oncology, neurosurgery, plastic
and reconstructive surgery, etc. It also has support services
like physiotherapy and nutrition information. Most of
the specialists working here have experience with hospitals
abroad.
The hospital has airconditioned ambulances that function
as mobile ICUs, equipped with enough oxygen and power
to support a sick baby for over a distance of 200 kilometres.
The ambulance services operate on a 24-hour basis.

Fernandez Maternity Hospital (FMH)
is a private institution dedicated wholly to the mother
and the newborn. The hospital is headed by Dr Evita Fernandez
and is backed by a committed team of obstetricians, gynaecologists,
neonatologists, anesthesiologists and a host of other
medical specialists.
This hospital was started by Dr Evita's parents in 1948.
Since then, it has grown from its modest two rooms to
a well-equipped, modern facility with 100 beds. This hospital
has fully equipped obstetric suites, a neonatal unit,
cancer screening and other hi-tech facilities.
FMH was the first hospital in the city to provide in-house
tests for both mother and fetus when it opened its Fetal
Medicine Unit. FMH was also the first to introduce 24-hour
anaesthesia services. FMH has a state-of-the-art neonatal
intensive care unit equipped with incubators, blue light
phototherapy units, apnea monitors, cardio respiratory
monitors, etc. The hospital also has a CPAP machine that
helps provide relief to babies with breathing problems.
A team of highly-trained doctors heads the neonatal department
of FMH.
The doctors of this hospital regularly attend international
conferences and training programmes to keep abreast of
advances in medicine. Plans are underway to make FMH a
full fledged teaching hospital. To this end, an airconditioned
hall for lectures and workshops has been set up.
