 The
study of skin, dermatology, has undergone a revolutionary
change, thanks to advanced and sophisticated diagnostic
procedures available in modern times. Besides the pharmacological
treatments and surgical procedures, we now have sophisticated
equipment to treat various skin diseases.
Somani Skin & Cosmetology Institute, located
in Himayatnagar, has advanced machines and procedures
for treating all skin ailments. The centre offers excellent
facilities under one roof. They include: Phototherapy,
a technique used in curing diseases like Psoriasis,
Vitiligo, lichen planus, atopic dermatitis. The institute
has two world class phototherapy machines- a whole body
chamber and a hand and foot unit, imported from Daavlin
of USA. Dermatosurgery consists of punch
grafting for vitiligo, scar revision, routine biopsies
and  dermabrasion.
Chemical peeling, used in removing pigmentary
anomalies is done with the help of trichlroacetic acid,
glycolic acid and phenol.
Besides these, the Institute offers cryothrerapy,
electrocautery, diathermy, electrolysis, iontophoresis
for hyperhidrosis patients and micropigmentation
for invisible patches on the lip or acral areas. The
Institute is the only one of its kind in the state and
is run by Dr V K Somani who worked as a professor
in Deccan Medical College.
