 The
Twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad will soon have
an international standard sports complex being set up
by the South Central Railway. Coming up in Secunderabad,
near the existing sports complex, the new complex
would approximately cost rupees ten crore. When the new
complex gets ready, Hyderabad can host any international
match of any sport. Although this sports complex is being
especially built to encourage excellence in sports for
the railway employees, it will also be used to hold international
meets and large competitions.
Location & Orientation
The site near Rail Nilayam is an ideal location for
the Sports Complex because of its easy accessibility
from the railway station, bus stop and the airport.
And Hyderabad is well connected to the rest of India
and the world. The stadium and other structures are
designed keeping in mind the direction of the breeze
and the stadium's North-South orientation.
The main entrance to the new complex will be from
the east so that the cricket stadium, the indoor hall
and the swimming pool become easily accessible. A network
of new roads and pedestrian walkways are also designed.
The cricket stadium will be at the North East of the
complex. It will accommodate 5000 spectators. It will
consist of a pavilion, office, computer room, medical
room, press room and a VIP lounge. Grand stands on either
side of the pavilion with entrance and exits have been
provided. The design of the cricket stadium is approved
by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The multipurpose indoor stadium is to be between the
cricket stadium and the swimming pool. It will have
a total playing area of 45 x 25 meters. The building
will have two floors with facilities for offices, computer,
conference, press, medical, locker rooms, etc. A provision
for seating 100 VIPs and 1000 spectators is made.
Other than this, the South Central Railway Authority
proposes to build an international standard Swimming
pool, an Athletic stadium and Sports hostel. The Athletic
stadium will be of 8 lanes each 1.25 meter wide. Necessary
installations for the high jump, throwing events and
pole vault have already been designed. The Sports Hostel
will have three floors with kitchen and dining rooms
to cater to the needs of 200 sports persons at a time.
With Malleswari as the source of inspiraton and with
international level facilities at this new sports complex,
it now remains to be seen whether better sportspersons
would come up in the state as well as on the national
scene.
