NEW TAJ KRISHNA |
The
first star hotel of Hyderabad, Taj Krishna added
some more frills to its interiors. The renovated luxury
hotel, was unveiled by the Chief Minister,
N Chandrababu Naidu, in the presence of Ratan Tata,
Chairman, Tata Group of Companies.
Taj Krishna, built by GVK Group of Industries is now one
of the flagship hotels of Taj-GVK Hotels and Resorts
Limited. In 1999 the Taj Group entered into
an alliance with the GVK Group to form the Taj-GVK Hotels
and Resorts.
"The flagship property was renovated at an investment
of Rs. 35 crore. The new sections have been designed by
US based Wilson & Associates," G V K Reddy,
the chairman of Taj-GVK Hotels and Resorts said.
For
those of you who are familiar with the Krishna Oberoi
of the past, the new face is so much better. The hotel
has shed its European touch-me-not image and is a lot
more welcoming now. The walls have been replastered with
ivory colours and the pillars have brilliant marble and
mother of pearl inlay work on jet black stone. All in
all, the interiors look fabulous. There's warm incandescent
lighting in the lobby and the halls and the walls are
dressed with large European paintings. The new areas include
a majestic porch, ornate new lobby, Seasoned Bar and
Lounge, Encounters - 24 hour international
eatery, besides Moonshine - an exquisite banquet
room. "We have also redone two floors of the Taj
Club and one floor of deluxe rooms to offer luxury and
comfort to our guests," explained Mr G V K Reddy.
R K Krishna Kumar, Managing Director, Indian
Hotels - the parent company of the Taj Group of Hotels
- said "The Falaknuma Palace being promoted
as a heritage hotel would be ready in 24 months. With
massive infusion of Rs. 130 crores, it is proposed to
add about 80 rooms and conferencing facilities at the
hotel. It would also have the distinction of having a
helipad, provided the Civil Aviation authorities give
the nod. A helipad is also being planned for the Taj Krishna."
According
to Krishna Kumar, the Taj Group's investments in three
hotels of Hyderabad - Taj Krishna, Taj Residency and
Taj Banjara, besides the Falaknuma, was a strategic
decision after identifying Hyderabad as the hub for potential
growth. Mrs G Indira Krishna Reddy, Managing Director,
Taj-GVK Hotels, said they would be launching an international
golf course and a health club with state-of-the-art facilities
soon.
The Taj Krishna inauguration was by far the most happening
event of the month. On that evening everything touched
its high magnitude. The invitees included who's who of
the city's political and business circles. Attired in
clothes ranging from strappy tops, zardosi kurtas and
suits in every conceivable shades of grey, the guests
were seen enjoying the party. Among the elite spotted
at the function included Ramesh Gelli, chairman
and managing director, Global Trust Bank, T Subbiram
Reddy, Ex-MP, D V Manohar, chairman, Shri Shakti
Group, Shakti Sagar, managing director Wilco Technologies,
A V S Raju, chairman, NCC Group, N Bhuvaneshwari,
wife of Chandrababu Naidu, Charu Sharma, the
commentator from Hyderabad, Moon Moon Sen, the
actress and her daughter.
Chinese,
Thai, Mughalai, South Indian and Continental dishes
were there. The food tasted great. The dessert had a variety
of cakes - chocolate, pineapple and vanilla. And
there were interestingly designed vanilla and chocolate
mousse. As one enjoyed the buffet dinner on the lawns,
fireworks shot up and burst in lovely starry spangles
in the sky. Delighted with the sounds and lights, everyone
looked up from their plates to the night sky that was
washed fresh with rain and glittering with fireworks that
looked so cheerful and festive. The spectacular fashion
show and the scintillating dance by Mauritian dancers
boosted the spirits of the guests.
