This company has the distinction of commissioning India's
first private power project and constructing Hyderabad's
first five star hotel, Krishna Oberoi. Since 1960,
GVK Industries has been involved in the infrastructure
sector, constructing dams, power projects and much more.

Named after Gunapati Venkata Krishnan Reddy, the
founder and present chairman, the company was one of the
key contractors of Nagarjuna Sagar, the largest
masonry dam in the world.
Setting and achieving challenging tasks has been a common
phenomenon at GVK. After 15 years of rich experience in
construction, the company diversified into industrial
products in the late seventies.
Novopan Industries Limited was set up in Patancheru,
near Hyderabad to manufacture prelaminated particle boards
with technical collaboration from the Fahrni Institue
of Switzerland. This unique and novel product created
ripples in the corporate world as well as in the housing
sector. Today, particle
boards are widely used, as an alternative to wood and
Novopan is the undisputed leader in this sector.
Inspired with its success in the Indian market, GVK went
global in the late eighties by establishing a wholly owned
subsidiary, GVK America Inc., at North Carolina, USA,
to capture the American and European markets. GVK America
used the same technology developed at Novopan India. Today,
GVK America's products, which are marketed under the brand
name of 'Indolam', are more popular than its American
and European counter parts.
GVK then forayed into Resins and Chemicals and mechanised
furniture as part of its backward and forward integration
strategies. In the eighties, it built two five star hotels,
Krishna Oberoi and Holiday Inn Krishna,
in Hyderabad.
No Indian company utilised the new opportunities created
by the liberalisation and privatisation like GVK. When
Andhra Pradesh Government invited global tenders to establish
wholly owned power projects, GVK submitted its proposals
along with other global competitors, and surprised everybody
by bagging the prestigious project. GVK with its 30-year
experience in infrastructure, completed the Jegurupadu
power project in just two years.
GVK is now engaged in the construction of a 500 MW coal
based project at Krishnapatnam, in Andhra and a 120 MW
diesel power plant at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.
"We make it happen" is the buzzword at GVK.
No doubt, they made it happen.
