There has always been a tendency to believe that
anything imported
is the best. The same holds true even in the home
furnishing business. That was until Veena came
to town. The latest entrant in to Hyderabad's burgeoning
furniture business, everything Veena sells is made
in India. Made in Mumbai to be more precise, since
that's where all their work is designed and factory
made.
According to Arun Gour, proprietor of Veena,
the store displays work that is of "International
quality designed at affordable prices." Unlike
most of the high-end furniture stores in the city,
Veena targets "everybody". The store comes
to Hyderabad a year after it was launched in Mumbai
and Pune.
Located
in Banjara Hills, just off the road to Annapoorna
Studios, the store is housed in a striking red and
white building complete with lawns and extensive
parking space. Over 3500 square feet Veena showcases
a whole range of furniture and home accessories,
right from a table to the tablecloth. The extensive
list includes sofas and recliners, table linen,
napkins, curtains, rugs, durries, bed covers, toys
and so much more. "The home furnishings are made
out of the best cotton fabrics of international
designs and colours," says Arun Gour. Infact,
Veena is introducing a range of five designs exclusively
for the Hyderabad market.
Veena has also tied up with Aarti Vir, a
Hyderabad based potter, who
will be selling her work exclusively at Veena. The
store has plans for similar tie-ups with a number
of local artisans. "We want to promote local
artists and we welcome any form of arts and crafts."
The services at Veena go beyond merely selling furniture.
The store provides after sale services. In Arun
Gour's words, "The problem with imported furniture
is that if they get spoilt, nothing can be done
about it. We have a group of carpenters who can
take care of any repairs or problems, if needed."
Veena plans to set up a shop in Vishakapatnam. But
that's later. For now the store is busy building
its clients in this city.
