"There
is still a lot of urge in my soul, which even I don't
know when it comes out in reality," said Sanjay
Ashtaputre to explain his awe towards painting. Having
literally put Hyderabad on the international scene, Sanjay
believes that art has no boundaries.
Born
in 1957 at Kandhar, near Nanded of Maharastra,
Sanjay Ashtaputre loves to paint and has been drawing
figures from his childhood. Sanjay's foray into professional
art was through an exhibition of his artworks in 1974
in Aurangabad. He has never turned back since.
He came to Hyderabad in 1979 as an Art Director
for an advertising company and here his life took an important
diversion. He has come a long way from being branded as
a commercial artist to being regarded as a multi talented
personality of Hyderabad.
He
captures every mood of nature and mirrors them on his
canvas. He has mastery over every form of painting and
wields his brush like the wand of a Magician. Any style
he prefers? "I like to give solo exhibitions on a selected
subject. For this, I do little exercise before I paint.
Later, I will create a series of paintings and exhibit
them," said Sanjay. Sanjay's exhibitions are a fantastic
journey for art lovers. Many series like 'Horses',
'Ganesha' and 'Dancing to his tunes', unfolded
from Sanjay's brush created indelible imprints on many
hearts. The muscle movement is rightly shown in Sanjay's
works. With anatomically perfect structures, all his figurative
works are so alive that they never fail to impress. "Knowledge
of painting and drawing is not at the only qualification
for an artist, his behaviour and attitude should also
be artistical," Sanjay believes.
He
is one of the best artists among the world to make portraits.
"I can paint any portrait within twenty minutes,"
he says. But, beyond any doubt, he is also good at
Landscapes, Animals, Birds and Abstract Art. In
his landscapes, one can see even minute figures also defined
well to give a genuine look. He has given plenty of shows
all over India. As a commercial artist, he is still the
most wanted in many renowned advertising companies like
Mudra, Sistas, Ulka, Everest and Sowbhagya.
He has illustrated more than 40 comic books for children
published from Delhi. His paintings adorn the walls
of many private houses, galleries, airports, showrooms
and important places all over the world. One can see his
murals at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Sanghi
Group and Bharat Dynamics Limited of Hyderabad.
Sanjay
also moulds Bronze sculptures. He developed his
own style of sculpting to master this field. Many sculptures
have been moulded in his hands. Besides these, Sanjay
is also good at playing the Sitar. He learned music
from Pandit Atmaramji, disciple of Naganand
Bapuji. Why are you familiar only as an artist? "I
spend most of my time by playing Sitar, but I love to
paint. Even in a short time, I can generate a good piece
of painting. May be because of that, I'm known to everyone
as an artist," he said. A sculptor, a musician
and a gifted artist, this versatile man leads a very simple
life.
A life that is comparable to that of any ordinary man.
