What
happens if the world famous Andhra Pradesh's textiles
come under one roof? The whole place would definitely
be crowded. The same thing can be said about the on-going
'Saree mela', being held at T.T.D building, Himayat
Nagar. The 'Saree Mela' is attracting huge crowds everyday
and is proving to be a big hit with the woman.
Organised
by APCO, an organisation of textiles in the state,
Saree Mela, is offering all varieties of textiles
for the benefit of customers. This is a second exhibition
of this kind in the city organised by the APCO. "It
is a splendid opportunity for Hyderabadis to buy the exclusive
textile varieties from all corners of the State,"
said Mr. A.V. Ramana, Regional Marketing Officer,
APCO. From traditional to the trendy wear including sarees,
dress materials, dhoties, towels, bedsheets and furnishings
are all available in the exhibition. Brought from various
textile centres in the state like Pochampalli, Mangalgiri,
Gadwal, Venkatagiri, Uppada, Narayanpet, Chirala and Dharmavaram,
the mela is offering lot of choice for the public specially
for women. All the textiles displayed here measure up
to the quality in terms of fabric, design and weave.
With
the good network of branches in the State and select cities
in the country, APCO also showcases and sells myraid textiles.
"As a co-operative organisation we have many groups
of weavers functioning under one umberilla. We provide
work for the weavers and also market quality stuff on
a non-profit basis," said Mr. Ramana. "The
response to the exhibition is wonderful and I've never
seen this kind of response from the people from metro
polis," said M. Rama Chander, weaver and
salesmen in the exhibition.
Saree mela is offering a discount of about 30 per cent
on each purchase. "It is quite interesting that
the mela is offering quality clothes at reasonable rates,"
said Maheswari, who visited the mela to buy the
textiles. The price range of textiles starts from Rs.
200 to 9,000. In this wide range, it is one's choice to
take their pick from Pochampalli (silk and cotton), Narayanpet
(silk and Cotton), Gadwal (silk and cotton), Dharmavaram,
Venkatagiri, Uppada, Chirala, Rajahmundry fancy sarees
and Paikraopet cotton from Vizag besides MLA dhoties (from
Srikakulam) and furnishings (ikkat and others). "After
seeing the bumping sales (around Rs. 2 lakhs per day),
we have decided to extend the exhibition till the end
of July," Ramana added.
