In
today's busy world, children do not get ample opportunity
to nurture their special skills or interests. They are
often weighed down by the pressures of academics and
the monotony of daily routines. To take care of them
and to give them a break from the daily routine is a
centre - Kaleidoscope.
Located in the serene atmosphere of Srinagar Colony,
Kaleidoscope believes in the concept that all children
are special. Each child is a unique marvel of creation,
with unique talent and ability. All they need is time
and encouragement to develop.
Children
often have inhibitions that hinder their development.
They may be quite brilliant in studies, but when it
comes to expressing, communicating or interacting with
people, they lack confidence and feel inferior. At Kaleidoscope,
the children participate in various group activities
and interactive sessions, thereby developing skills
and qualities, like communication and listening skills,
sense of responsibility, teamwork, sharing, self learning,
self assessment and quality of caring and concern. All
Kaleidoscope does is create time and space for them
to discover themselves.
And the children? They just have fun, acquire many
new friends, work on the computer, watch interesting
programmes on television, read lots of books and walk
into a great deal of learning without realising what
they are doing. And yes, they also relax and enjoy themselves.
Some
of the children who come here during vacations or after
school feel that group discussions, informative assignments,
reading books, playing new games and other group activities
were enjoyable and made a lot of difference to them.
While nine-year old Sharan says that he has a
great time at Kaleidoscope, great as well as useful,
Kaushik finds the place very, very neat. He is
also happy that here he can do whatever he likes to.
Talk to any child, you'll find similar feelings echoing.
To give a real family atmosphere, Kaleidoscope also
involves parents and grandparents in various programmes
and activities. Soon, there will be psychologists here
to whom parents can talk and consult. With special programmes
and courses lined up for Dassera, Christmas, Pongal
and other vacations, Omana, Lalitha and Shobha, the
trio behind Kaleidoscope, have their hands already full.
But they do not lament, they are happy about it.
With the emergence of nuclear families, children are
not getting enough opportunities to spend time and enjoy
with their families. But for Hyderabadi children there
is an extended family with which children can spend
time happily and also gainfully. Yes, at the Kaleidoscope.
