--------- Brilliant artist, endearing teacher
- Mahurkar
Ambadas Mahurkar is one of the few talented
artists of India,
who can do wonders with water colours and produce amazing
landscapes. A renowned and gifted artist, Mahurkar leads
a simple life as a painting instructor.
Born in Maharashtra, in his grand mother's place in
1933, Mahurkar grew up in Hyderabad and later settled
here. He has chosen the challenging medium of water
colours as his weapon to mould his career. He has
been painting for the past four decades, capturing every
mood of nature and man, which he so vividly expresses
in his work, using a technique of his own. By attaining
true mastery of the medium, he has shown what patient
perseverance and talent can achieve. He derives all
his happiness from his work. His expertise in bringing
all shades on canvas with water colours to produce many
imaginary landscapes which though not seen anywhere
seems very real.
He
is not only a gifted artist, but is also a dedicated
teacher. His works create a complete awareness and inspiration
in young, old, rich and the poor, as he shares his talent
with them. He worked as a Drawing Teacher in
Little Flower School here in Hyderabad for 37
years and retired in 1991. As part of his teaching profession,
he started an Art school called Kala Mandir,
near St Francis College for Women, at Begumpet in 1980.
This art school has moulded many a young artist into
a professional. He is known as a charming teacher who
nurtures creativity in his students by allowing them
to experiment. He possesses a rare simplicity and humility.
This has helped him to contribute invaluable service
to the world of water colours.
He has won many State and National level awards and
has given many solo as well as group exhibitions all
over India since 1974. He was honoured with the Chitra
Kala Kaushal by Yogavedanta Forest University
- Rishikesh in 1958. He has also received many awards
from different organisations including the the All
India Art Exhibition, Hyderabad Art Society, All India
Drawing Teachers Association, All India Contemporary
Miniatures Exhibition and also a Veteran Artist
Award.
No doubt, Mahurkar is not only a brilliant artist but
also an endearing teacher.
