A lot of flak has been heaped on Chandrababu Naidu -
'a politician
with only self-development in mind; with an unrealistic
target of turning the underprivileged Hyderabad into
a competent contender in the international market.'
These persuasive complaints almost seem to many like
the rejection of Jesus by the Jews!
Turning a deaf ear to all this, Naidu carries on with
his daily chores with the persistence akin to King
Bruce's spider! A normal day for Naidu begins at
3:30 a.m. The wee hours of the morning find him checking
the electricity generation in the state's various plants,
water levels in reservoirs and crime reports.
His
projects are undertaken like the CEO of a company
- an involvement so wholesome that the worst of the
slackers are shown the door. He cannot tolerate abettors
of corruption and is harsh with violators of legalities.
"Our biggest challenge is to change the old mind-set,
which promoted corruption and inefficiency"
Some of his visions include:
Ø Vision 2000 for a SMART - (Simple, Moral, Accountable,
Responsive and Transparent) government.
Ø Hooking up villages with the Internet: This has set
the tone for technological progress of the state, which
is most effective when begun in the villages.
Ø Laying the government's business out for public scrutiny.
Ø Soon the people in Andhra will be able to get driver's
license and food cards, register property and pay bills
online.
Ø The tremendous impetus to the IT sector has prompted
giants like Microsoft, Oracle and IBM to have bases
in Hyderabad
Cyderabad, a high-tech city with the entire
infrastructure for software development that is now
seeing its way through the world of the old structures
in Hyderabad. The state has increased its software exports
more than tenfold in the last four years.
" In five years I want to make Andhra Pradesh totally
literate and in 10 years eradicate poverty totally."
Naidu's muscle lies in the fact that he is discipline
personified. There is efficiency in his office. His
desk is bereft of the papers that hound any chief minister's
office. There is no procrastination or papers piled
up waiting to get noticed. His meetings are informal
and decisions are taken promptly and instantaneously.
The feather in his cap is that he is effortlessly accessible
to all. Thanks to Naidu, today Hyderabad has activities
parallel to that around an anthill.
The people of Hyderabad today trust their Nara Chandrababu
Naidu to fulfill their fervent dreams!
